What about national insurance?
For
National Insurance purposes you are an "employed earner" and as
such you are liable for Class 1 national insurance
contributions.
We are responsible for deducting Class 1 contributions. They are
calculated as a percentage of your monthly payments from us
(excluding any reimbursement for heating, lighting, cleaning and
garden upkeep costs). These contributions entitle you to social
security benefits (e.g. the State Pension).
It is important that we know your national insurance number to
account for your contributions. If you do not know your number or
have not been allocated one, please contact your nearest HMRC or
Jobcentre Plus office as soon as possible.
Your contributions have to be deducted by us until you reach
retirement age. We shall tell you when these contributions are to
cease shortly before this happens.
If, for any reason, you do not pay Class 1 contributions, you may
wish to consider paying flat-rate Class 3 voluntary contributions.
For further advice on this, or any other aspect of national
insurance or social security benefits, contact any HMRC or
Jobcentre Plus office.
